Newly Elected Minnesota Republican Party Chair Defends Flat Earth Beliefs

Edina, MN - Despite years of outspoken belief in a wide variety of fringe theories, newly elected chair of the Republican party in Minnesota's 7th Congressional District Brett Bussman is confident in his ability to unite voters across the political spectrum.

"Everybody has at least a concern or two about what the government is up to behind closed doors," Brett Bussman explained. "Some people worry that their taxes are being wasted because of inefficiency and fraud, and others know that government reptilians faked the moon landing. We're all just fighting for a better future, and minds can't be changed without finding common ground to open up a dialogue between two opposing sides."

Bussman defeated veteran 7th District chair Craig Bishop, claiming a victory that some far-right activists are calling the beginning of the end for a corrupt "Republican in name only" establishment in the state. Bussman agrees, comparing the election to the controlled demolition that brought down the World Trade Center in 2001, but wants to focus on bringing new voters into the party rather than pushing out old ones. "My election was step one in rooting out the truth. Step two, naturally, will be uncovering the lies behind the so-called round Earth hypothesis. But after that, it's going to be all about making a bigger tent."
